Halstead High School Debate

Congratulations to Kenzie, Sara, Christian, Emily, David, and Braden for qualifying for state!

The United States Federal Government should substantially increase its economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People’s Republic of China by repealing section 539 of the CONSOLIDATED AND FURTHER CONTINUING APPROPRIATIONS ACT of 2012, otherwise known as the Wolf Amendment, which prevents bilateral cooperation with China on space policy.

"Our group is so incredibly fun to get to work with. We have a lot of students who aren't just competitive but who are just really good people."

Over this debate season, the Halstead Debate Team has participated in many tournaments at several different schools. The team went against other schools to debate the topic of engagement with China. The team learned a lot about the topic, some examples are the US and China working on human rights and space. For the first time in 10 years, Halstead had debaters qualify for state competition held at Lyons. Although neither teams made it past preliminaries , Kenzie and Sara went 2-4 while Christian and Emily went 3-3. Overall, this debate season has been great and the team cannot wait for next years season!
